A morning walk

She says we do it for exercise and health. She's certainly right, but there's more. There's inner peace. There's beauty. There's solitude. There's starting the day without the banality, at best, or the political bickering, at worst, served up by the morning TV news shows. There's escape into a world without hunger, disease, war, or any of the problems humanity inflicts upon itself. All that waits until later.

  1. After a morning walk you will be fortified and better able to cope with the renewed nastiness of what the day brings.

And it IS good for your health, too.

  2. Even my short trot to work is better than a car journey for getting grounded and calm.

  3. Mental health is important too. A walk is refreshment for the soul.
