Although rather small by some standards, these games had all of the usual elements. There were the pipe bands -
There were "Scottish" bands,
and an "Irish" band.
There was a dance competition -
And there were the games -
And always my favorite, the sheep-herding demonstration -
We'll take a look at the less-than-usual tomorrow.
Lucky you, Jim! Haven't been to a Highland games in years! And, yes! The BC's are always the best part IMHO! Love those helpers (they're never called "dogs" in this household). "Dogs" are those other creatures that invade the space of the BC's and need to be dealt with!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a fun time; never have been to any Highland games. The herding dogs would be awesome to watch. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteWell, that sort of thing is fine once a year. It's entertainment of the harmless sort. If you enjoy it, then that's all to the good.
ReplyDeleteI would love the sheep herding demos also!
ReplyDeleteAnd there's nothing like a marching Scottish band. What great fun!
What a great event. Love all the games, but the herding is the best.
ReplyDeleteDarryl and Ruth :)
In our neck of the woods, we have the Maxville Highland Games in August. Many bands from all over NA, lots of dancers, great big guys tossing cabers, etc. and so much bagpiping. And sheep dog demos too. We even celebrate St.Andrew's Day here in Glengarry county.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks kind of familiar! Lots of fun though - I love watching sheepdogs.
